Independence, Inc. is unlocking a future of opportunity for North Dakotans in recovery from substance abuse disorder and behavioral health conditions involved in the criminal justice system. In early July, the disability rights organization became a provider for Free Through Recovery (FTR). FTR is a community-based, peer support program designed to reduce recidivism and enhance daily living outcomes.
Participants will work one-on-one with a care coordinator to access treatment and support services to achieve independent living goals. The care coordinator will assist people in obtaining employment, housing, transportation, financial self-sufficiency, education, therapy, parenting courses, recreation, social engagement and other resources to successfully transition to the community. Participants will also have the opportunity to connect with a peer support specialist who has lived the same experience and has encountered similar barriers re-entering society after criminal offenses.
To enroll, participants must be 18 years or older with a behavioral health condition and referred by their probation or parole officer. For more information, please contact Independence, Inc. at 701-839-4724.
