By: Nicole Beech, Independent Living Advocate
Hello, my name is Nicole Beech and I am an Independent Living Advocate here at Independence, Inc. as well as a Care Coordinator for the Free Through Recovery Program. In this program, I work closely with consumers in recovery who may have barriers to employment, housing and other services in the community.
I was born in New York City but moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to attend high school. I attended Minot State University and studied Criminal Justice. I started at Independence Inc. in August after working at the Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch for the past 10 years. It was a scary transition to make in accepting a job during a global pandemic. I am extremely pleased to say, the staff at Independence Inc. have been incredibly welcoming and helped ease any anxieties I may have had. They are full of so much creativity and knowledge of the various programs that can benefit the community. I knew I made the right choice as I watched the staff come together to plan events that helped people during this new era (Covid-19) as those same people can sometimes be easily forgotten.
I am thankful to have the opportunity to work for an amazing company and I look forward to continuing to grow and learn as much as I can from consumers and coworkers.
