Position Announcement: 

Independence, Inc. is a disability rights organization. Our mission is to advocate for the freedom of choice for individuals with disabilities to live independently through the removal of all barriers. We are currently accepting applications for the position of Independent Living Advocate for our Minot Office. 
The primary function of this job is to provide information and referral, advocacy, skills training and institutional transition services to people with disabilities of all ages. This job requires you to able to work well independently and be able to learn complicated tasks quickly. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to communicate well with people from various social and ethic backgrounds both verbally and in writing.  

The successful applicant will serve as a Free Through Recovery Care Coordinator. In this role, they will be an ongoing source of connection, helping participants access treatment and recovery support services, and creatively addressing barriers to individual success.  It also includes the provision of assessment, care planning, referrals, and monitoring collaboration with clinical services and probation and parole.

This person must have good listening skills and be empathetic towards persons with any type of disability. Knowledge of behavioral health, the criminal justice system, and addiction is strongly preferred.  Applicant must be able to assist individuals with disabilities to pursue their goals while maintaining their independence.  Experience in assisting and advocating for persons with disabilities is desired.  Knowledge of and adherence to the Independent Living philosophy is necessary.  Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.  Professional experience in working with people with disabilities may be substituted for secondary education. Must have valid drivers license and liability insurance. Personal experience with individuals with disabilities is desired.
