Independence,
Inc. is looking for a natural leader to serve as our next Youth Transition Specialist.
The Youth
Transition Specialist (YTS) is responsible to provide independent living and
transition services to youth with all types of disabilities. Primarily based in
a school setting, the YTS will provide group and classroom based trainings to
better prepare students for successful lives.
The YTS will
work with youth ages 14-21, will
communicate with youth in an individual and group setting, build relationships
with families and the school system, and prepare youth for the workforce,
college and/or future living situations.
The YTS will
be a primary point of contact for Independence, Inc.’s youth transition
program, BEYOND (Building and Encouraging Youth Opportunities in North Dakota). BEYOND is a character-based approach for youth with
disabilities ages 14-22. It is designed to help students in the transition from
the secondary school environment to independence in the world of work,
post-secondary education, and adulthood.
The flexible
curriculum offers over 30 lessons which can be molded and differentiated to the
unique needs of youth with disabilities.
The YTS will
also be a primary point of contact in our Youth Ambassadors of Disability
Awareness (YADA). YADA is a youth-led group in the Minot area that works to
increase disability rights and awareness in the community.
