SERVICES

Empowerment Services

Independence, Inc. assists people in working towards goals they establish for themselves, whether it be resources to learn a new skill, some help with advocacy to get a needed service, the support of a mentor or basic information on programs and equipment. Independence helps people make informed decisions on how they live their lives.

Individual Advocacy

Individual advocacy services are available to consumers who need help finding their way through systems such as health care, transportation, In-home support services, and social security. Independence staff members directly assist individuals in obtaining their legal and economic benefits or refer them to agencies that may provide the appropriate services.

Independent Living Skills

Independence offers individual and group training to increase independence in a variety of areas including budgeting, meal planning, use of public transportation, and social skills training, and other areas you may need help with to increase your independence. The classes usually meet weekly for three to eight sessions. The classes are free of charge to all interested participants.

Peer Support

Independence staff recruits and trains people with disabilities who can foster independence in others by becoming a peer mentor and matches them with individuals who may be experiencing similar situations.

Transition Program

Independence staff assists youth between the ages of 14 and 21, and their families with transition issues from high school to adult life.
